Tak

Bill

Hi to Forum members

I am new to this forum and do not speak or read the Danish language.  However I am using Google Translate to transcribe the written English to Danish text, so hopefully the google translator has done things correctly.  I am using this approach in order to reach the widest audience possible. I hope this approach is acceptable to the forum.
I have been researching my Danish ancestry (Karen Marie Dam, born in Nyker in 1848)and have been looking through the Danish church records (microfiche) for her ancestors on Bornholm. I have a question regarding the names Sidsel (Sissel) and Cecilie among possible ancestors. In the english language sidsel is a lesser form of Cecilie.  At least that is my understanding, although it is not likely, as far as I am aware, to be used interchangeably within family records.  In Danish records of the 1800’s, does anyone have any opinion if Sidsel (or Sissel) would be used interchangeably with Cecilie  ( e.g., as she became older) or is it more likely that these people are two separate individuals and not just a nik-name within the family? For example, in English the name Bill is short for William.

My original English version is shown below.

Thank you

Hi
Sidsel/Sidesle/Cecilie is used as the same name sometimes bcause if you speak it you can't hear if it is the one or the other, so I always look up the birth and baptism to see what she is baptized and then in alterative names write the other down.
Have you all informatimes you need on Karen Marie Dam because this person have her on ther site:

Hi

Thanks very much for the Tip.  Yes I have this information. I am currently looking at her father's probate record. The family trees of Karen Marie Dam and her sister Laura Christine Dam who came to Australia in 1873 have all been mapped by various people so I am now looking at her forebears on Bornholm.

Thank you

Bill

Hi  Winnie

Thanks very much for the links. I will investigate further.

The probate record I have been attempting to read is below and is for Niels Hansen Dam who is Karen Marie Dam's father and who's probate is dated 25 May 1880.  I note that there is one son missing from the list of offspring  - Hans Jensen Dam.  However the probate record is signed by a Hans Dam. Is it likely based on your experience that he could have missed his name from the list or is it possibly the son-in-law, Hans Svendsen Dam. Hans S Dam was married to Cecilie Marie Dam (Karen Marie Dam's sister).
